Peer through a microscope & study cards like never before
video by Markus Cosinus
PLAYING CARDS USED IN VIDEO:
One blue-backed 808 Rider Back Bicycle playing card
One brown-backed 605 Lee Asher Signatures Series playing card
one blue-backed Jerry's Nugget Casino playing card
HOW THE IMAGES WERE CAPTURED:
The first pic of each of the playing cards was taken with a regular household digital camera.
For the magnification of 1x, 2x, 5x magnification pics, a light microscope (employs visible light to detect small objects) was used.
For the 10x and 20x magnification pics a Laser Scanning Microscope (LSM) was used. The LSM produced two pictures, one using white light and the other using laser light, showing you the topography of the object.
The final shots of each card were the two (LSM) pictures, blended together.
What kind of conclusions can be made from studying playing cards like this?
In this video, you can plainly see the result of the various manufacturing processes used by USPCC and Fournier. Clearly, the 808 and Jerry's Nugget Playing Card have a machine rolled-on finish, which is why those squares seem equidistant and precise. If you study the Fournier card, it's obvious the special varnish has been applied by spray, then baked on.
With the 605s, you can certainly feel the difference, but now you can SEE the difference, too.
